NubianNewYorkers - Take Action Now: Legal Tactics to Make Politicians Listen to YOU

Hey NubianNewYorkers... my family, my friends..

Adorable ones, I hope you’re all feeling bright today! I want to talk to you about something close to my heart-how each of us, born right here in the United States, has the power to shape our future by speaking up to our government.

Your voice, my friend, is a treasure. When we use it together, we can create the kind of world we want to live in.

Sometimes, it can feel like only rich people or big companies get to talk to politicians, but that’s not true at all. When you and your family reach out to your local representative, you are showing them what real people in their community care about.

If something happens-a problem at school, in your neighborhood, or even a family emergency-it helps so much to already have a friendly connection with your local politician’s office.

They are there to help you, and when they know your name and your story, they can listen and act even faster. Lobbying isn’t just for the powerful, it’s for everyone, and your voice can make a big difference!

Let me show you how you can get your voice heard-this is called “lobbying,” and it’s easier than you think:

1. Find Out Who Represents You

First things first, adorable one: you need to know who your local politicians are. Even if you didn’t vote for them, they still work for you! You can find them online using these helpful sites:

    USAGov Elected Officials Tool
    https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

House of Representatives “Find Your Representative”
    https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

    270toWin “Who Represents Me?”
    https://www.270towin.com/who-represents-me/

    Ballotpedia “Who Represents Me?”
    https://ballotpedia.org/Who_represents_me

2. Plan Your Meeting OR Communicate Online

Politicians are busy, but remember, my family, their job is to listen to you. Check their website or call their office to find out when you can meet them. Many hold “town hall meetings” where anyone can speak up. Mark it on your calendar and get ready!

AND/OR

U.S. citizens have several effective ways to communicate online with their elected representatives:

    Email:

Most elected officials have official websites with contact forms or published email addresses. Sending a personalized, concise email is one of the fastest and most effective ways to share your views. Always include your name and address so they know you are a constituent, and clearly state the issue and your request

.

Official Contact Tools:

Websites like the USA.Gov 'Elected Officials Tool, help you find your representatives and their official contact information, including email and web forms

.

Social Media:

Many members of Congress and local officials actively use platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to interact with constituents. You can tag them in posts, reply to their updates, or send direct messages. Social media is public, so your message may get more attention, but always keep it respectful and focused

.

Advocacy Platforms:

Services like Resistbot let you send messages to your representatives by texting, using Messenger, or other chat apps. Resistbot will find your officials for you and deliver your message as a fax, email, or letters

.

3. Know What to Say

Think about what matters most to you-maybe it’s helping families in need or making your neighborhood safer. Be clear and keep your message short. Know a few facts about your issue, and have a simple request, like asking them to support a law or speak up about your concern.

4. Take Notes and Pictures

When you meet your representative, write down what you talked about, especially if they promise to do something. Take a photo together! It’s a great memory, and sometimes the local newspaper might want to share your story.

5. Follow Up

After your meeting, send a thank you note. Ask if they’ve done what they promised. And don’t forget to tell others in our community about your experience-when you share your journey, you inspire others to find their voice, too.

Remember, my adorable ones, thinking ahead and taking these steps shows true wisdom and care for our future. Lobbying isn’t just for adults or experts-it’s for everyone, and especially for thoughtful, caring people like you.

I’m so proud of you, my friends. Let’s keep lifting each other up and making our voices heard. Together, there’s nothing we can’t do!

With all my admiration,
E-MAN

NubianNewYorkers - Thinking About Moving to Africa? (At least til after the next Prez election?) Let’s Talk Options

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking into places where we can live as Black gay men without all the stress we face here. Africa has some great options, but we need to be smart about it. Here’s what I found:

Ghana – Since 2019, Ghana has been welcoming Black folks from the U.S. through the Year of Return program. It’s full of culture and history, and you’ll see Black people everywhere, which feels amazing. But keep in mind: being gay isn’t fully accepted there. There’s a growing LGBTQ+ community in Accra, but we’d need to be careful and connect with locals who know the scene.

South Africa – This is the best option for living openly. Cape Town has beaches, art, and a strong LGBTQ+ community. Same-sex marriage is legal here, so you can be yourself without hiding. Johannesburg is busier, with more creative energy. The drag scene and social life are thriving—definitely a place where we can live freely.

Kenya – Nairobi has modern city life, nature, and a cool vibe. But like Ghana, being gay is still illegal, so the queer community is more underground. If you go, link up with local LGBTQ+ groups to stay safe and connected.

Liberia – This country has deep ties to Black history, but LGBTQ+ rights aren’t strong yet. It’s more for those who want a connection to heritage but are okay keeping things private.

Benin & Togo – Beautiful places with rich culture, but not safe for living openly as LGBTQ+. Better for short visits than long-term stays.

If you’re serious about leaving, South Africa is the safest choice. Ghana and Kenya are great but require caution. Let me know if you want more details—I’m happy to keep researching.

Stay safe and proud,

E-man

NubianNewYorkers - A Strategic Perspective on Democratic Power and Communication

The Democrats have undeniably lost control of the White House, Congress, the Senate, and hold no sway over the Supreme Court. To many, this appears to be a straightforward loss of power—a devastating blow to their influence in shaping the nation's future. However, I believe there’s a deeper strategic opportunity hidden within this apparent defeat.

Life as Chess: A Bigger Board with Endless Possibilities

I’ve always viewed life as a chess game, but not the conventional kind. Imagine a board that’s infinitely larger, with more pieces and countless strategies available. In politics, power is often perceived in narrow terms—who controls the obvious levers of government. But true power lies in how you play the game when you’re seemingly at a disadvantage.

Yes, Democrats have lost traditional avenues of power. But paradoxically, they’ve gained a unique advantage: they are no longer directly responsible for what happens next. Every misstep by Republicans can now be weaponized against them. Democrats can use this moment to redefine their strategy and shift public perception—a crucial move in the chess game of politics.

Political Campaigns Are Communication Competitions

One undeniable truth about modern politics is that campaigns are communication competitions. Donald Trump understands this better than most. His mastery of media manipulation has allowed him to dominate narratives, even when his policies falter or his actions are controversial. Democrats, however, have yet to fully grasp the importance of controlling the narrative.

Take Trump’s decision to bar certain news organizations from the White House Press Room because they reported stories he didn’t like. This is a blatant attempt to silence dissent and control information flow. Instead of lamenting this move, Democrats should seize the opportunity to counter it creatively and strategically.

A Bold Counter-Narrative Strategy

Imagine if Democrats set up their own press room—a space designed to mirror the White House Press Room—and invited every journalist or news organization excluded by Trump’s administration. They could hold daily briefings immediately following official White House press conferences, dissecting misinformation and presenting their own counter-narrative. This would be an innovative way to amplify their voice and reclaim influence over public discourse.

Such a move would not only highlight Trump’s authoritarian tendencies but also position Democrats as champions of transparency and free speech. It would be a bold statement that they refuse to be silenced or sidelined.

The Path Less Traveled: Strategic Communication and Long-Term Goals

In life—and politics—most people compete for power in predictable ways, chasing after the same goals using similar strategies. But true visionaries understand that success lies in exploring paths others overlook. Democrats should embrace this philosophy by focusing on unconventional tactics rather than lamenting their losses.

Their strategy should center around three key pillars:

  1. Fundraising: Build a war chest to fuel future campaigns and grassroots movements.

  2. Constant Communication: Stay engaged with the public through social media, town halls, press conferences, and other platforms.

  3. Legislative Strategy: Work tirelessly to gather or elect 60 votes in the Senate for impeachment while regaining control of the House.

By combining these efforts with innovative communication strategies like daily counter-briefings, Democrats can turn their current disadvantage into an opportunity for growth and resurgence.

Conclusion: Playing Chess When Others Play Checkers

Power is not just about holding offices or controlling institutions; it’s about shaping perceptions and influencing narratives. While Republicans may currently dominate traditional power structures, Democrats have an opening to redefine their role in American politics by embracing creativity, strategy, and relentless communication.

In chess—and life—the winner isn’t always the player who starts with more pieces on the board; it’s often the one who sees possibilities others overlook and plays with passion and precision. If Democrats adopt this mindset, they can transform today’s losses into tomorrow’s victories.

NubianNewYorkers - GAY BLACK SHORT MOVIES - Spectum Screens, Queer Black Frames, Black Queer Cinema, Pride Reels

Hey NubianNewYorkers!

Let's talk about something really awesome and important - seeing ourselves reflected in the movies we watch. It's not just cool, it's actually super meaningful, especially for our LGBTQ+ friends and family

The good news is, we're making progress! A recent study by GLAAD found that in 2022, 28.5% of films featured an LGBTQ character - that's the highest number they've ever recorded

. How amazing is that? It means more people are getting to see themselves and their experiences portrayed in film than ever before.

But here's the really inspiring part - this representation isn't just nice to have, it's actually changing lives and minds. Check this out:

"80% of non-LGBTQ respondents who had been exposed to LGBTQ people in films/TV/advertising say they are more supportive of equal rights for LGBTQ people"

That's the power of storytelling, folks! By sharing diverse stories and characters, we're not just entertaining - we're building bridges and fostering understanding.

For LGBTQ+ youth, seeing themselves represented can be particularly powerful. It helps them develop "a sense of identity and self-worth" and can "help with feelings of loneliness or isolation"

. It's like a beacon of hope, showing them that their experiences are valid and valued.

Remember, every character is a potential lifeline for someone out there who needs to see that they're not alone. Let's celebrate the beautiful tapestry of human experiences that make up our world - on and off the screen. Enjoy these gay movie shorts!

Share these movies with someone you know will enjoy!

NubianNewYorkers - Spring is here! A time for renewal, growth, and new beginnings - SPRING CLEANING

I hope you're doing well! You know, with spring right around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about that age-old tradition of spring cleaning. You’ve probably heard of it — the big yearly overhaul where you scrub down the house, shake out the carpets, and let in some fresh air after being cooped up all winter. Believe it or not, this tradition actually started in the U.S. in the 1840s, mostly in places like Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Back then, the cleaning wasn’t just about dusting off the shelves — it was a chance to get rid of all the soot and grime that built up from coal and wood heat during the cold months. It was like a reset for the home, a way to get everything fresh and clean before the warmer weather and all those pesky bugs arrived.

But here’s the thing — spring cleaning isn’t just for your home. It’s the perfect time to refresh all aspects of your life. Think about it: health, fitness, your mind, and even your digital life could probably use a little spring cleaning too. So, I thought I’d share some ideas on how to do just that.

1. Health Habits:

Time for a Dietary Detox: Use this as an opportunity to clear out the junk from your diet. Maybe it’s time to ditch those processed snacks, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats, and replace them with more fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains. It’ll help you feel more energized and ready for whatever’s next.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Spring is a great time to start paying more attention to hydration. Swap out that afternoon coffee for some herbal tea, and make sure you’re hitting that 8-cup mark for water every day (or more, if you're active).
Check-in with Your Health: If you’ve been putting off any doctor’s appointments, now’s a good time to schedule them. A clean bill of health will set you up for the year ahead.
Pantry Purge: Clear out any expired items in your kitchen and give your pantry a little organizing love. A tidy kitchen makes healthy eating so much easier.

2. Fitness:

Get Moving with the Season: The warmer weather is calling you! Switch up your fitness routine to match the season — hiking, biking, or just walking around the park. Spring is the perfect excuse to get outside and get active again.
Set Fresh Goals: Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your fitness goals. Challenge yourself to try something new — whether that’s yoga, pilates, or even taking up a dance class. Change keeps things interesting!
Spring Clean Your Workout Gear: Go through your gym clothes and gear. If something’s old, worn out, or just doesn’t fit right anymore, toss it. You’ll be amazed how much more motivated you’ll feel with fresh, functional workout gear.

3. Psychological Well-being:

Declutter Your Mind: Spring cleaning isn’t just about your physical space — it’s also a chance to clear out any emotional clutter. Take some time to reflect on stress, negative thoughts, or even toxic relationships that might be holding you back. Let go of anything that doesn’t serve you.
Gratitude & Positivity: Add some space for good vibes in your life. Start a gratitude journal or practice daily meditation. A little positivity can go a long way in helping you stay grounded.
Check-in on Your Mental Health: If you’ve been feeling a bit off lately, maybe it’s time to talk to someone. Spring is a great time to check in with a therapist or counselor to work through anything that might be weighing you down.
Digital Detox: Sometimes the mental clutter comes from our digital lives. Consider stepping away from social media for a bit or limiting your screen time. It’ll clear your head and make room for more meaningful connections.

4. Digital Life:

Organize Your Devices: Take a few minutes to clean up your phone, computer, and cloud storage. Delete apps you don’t use, organize your photos, and clear out any files that are just taking up space. A more organized digital life can improve your productivity and reduce stress.

And there you have it! Spring is all about renewal and fresh starts — and that doesn’t just apply to nature. It’s the perfect time to take a step back, reflect, and clean up all the areas of your life that could use a little refresh.
