How to get that SPRING body in 8 weeks


No matter what time of the year it is, it seems that the spring bathing suit panic, er, season, is just around the corner. As soon as we open that last Christmas present, it's time to make that New Year's Resolution to lose weight, trim up, get into shape, get healthier, or what have you. The thing is, long term weight loss plans rarely work. Why? Because we wait until the last minute to get into shape, fail, and then get discouraged. However, if you find that the season of swimsuits and sleeveless shirts is fast closing in upon you, you can actually turn the pressure into motivation. Give yourself eight weeks, and you'll be able to see results that will end with fewer tears in the dressing room come spring.  Check it out...

During the first two weeks, just work on revving up your routine again. If you are already maintaining a fitness or weight loss program, that's great. Just turn it up a notch with higher intensity workouts, longer sessions, more frequent trips to the gym, or whatever will force you to work a little harder during the home stretch. Chances are, however, that if you are reading this, your aren't already working out. If that's the case, start slowly. If you try to do too much, you'll give up quickly out of frustration. No one expects you to go from couch potato today to marathon runner tomorrow. Try taking a brisk, twenty minute walk after dinner for the first few days, and then try adding another brisk walk in the morning. At the same time, take a look at your diet and just begin taking note of things. When do you eat the most? What is your most vulnerable overeating time? Do you notice any patterns or habits that could be single handedly sabotaging your weight loss plan? Write it all down. Just practicing this habit every single day will cause you to make wiser dietary choices by simply making you more aware of what you are putting into your body.

 
During weeks three and four, it's time to step it up. Exercise every day for at least 45 minutes at as high an intensity as you are comfortable with (of course, talk to your doctor first if you have any pre-existing health problems or if it has been quite a while since you last exercised). Also, add a strength training routine that works all of the major muscle groups of the body. If you have a gym membership, ask a staff member to help you figure out what you can handle. If you are looking to do more than just tone (in other words, if you want to add muscle), be sure to add weight to your machines as you are able to in the following weeks. Otherwise, you can lift at close to the same weight level for the following weeks in order to simply tone and define your muscles. Either way, you will be quickly sculpting your body, and this is the quickest way to see results in your fitness program. Keep up with your strength training routine religiously, but do remember to give yourself 24 hours to recuperate between each session.



During the weeks five and six, start concentrating on really toning those body parts that matter most during hot weather months. We're talking about the chest, arms and abs for men, and the arms, abs, and legs for women. Take an honest look at yourself in the mirror and focus in on what body part needs the most work, while also taking into consideration how much that body part will actually be shown during the spring and summer. In other words, if your stomach seems to need the most help, but you have no desire to show it even if it were in good condition, move on to the next part. Many women often find that their arms are what they need to work on first, considering that it is difficult to conceal them when the weather is hot. Men often find themselves working on their chests, as swimming and other outdoor activities traditionally require them to expose that area. Whatever body part you decide is crucial, begin working on toning and sculpting it separately. If your arms need the most work, really pump them during your walks and do extra upper body exercises during your strength training. Give that part special attention for the next few weeks.



During weeks seven and eight, start increasing your intake of water even more (something you should have been doing all along), decrease your sodium intake, decrease your sugar intake, add more sculpting exercises to improve on your "crucial" areas (consider adding extras crunches, squats, and push-ups), and really focus in on toning. You won't be able to lose a substantial amount of weight in those last two weeks (probably not more than 2-4 lbs) so don't kill yourself in an attempt to do so. Work on improving the appearance of your body by shaping it and reducing flab. Also, keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat, so you may not have lost as much weight as you would have liked, but you have converted fat into muscle, which is perfectly fine. In turn, muscle burns fat faster, so the more muscle you build, the better able you are to lose weight and keep it off.
 
At the end of eight weeks, you will notice a leaner, more toned body, and will hopefully (and most likely) have lost a few pounds of excess flab if you have watched your diet as well. Don't stop there, though. You can decrease the intensity of your workouts, but keep up an exercise and strength training routine for good. That way, come next spring, you won't have to work so hard to get ready. You'll already be there.

FLASHBACK- "Son Of A Gun"

NFL Star Eric Green Accused of Sodomy by Transvestite



San Francisco 49er Eric Green was slapped with a $10 million lawsuit filed in a Florida federal court by a transvestite.

According to court documents, Green, 27, met Angelina Mavilia, 38, at a Scottsdale, Ariz., casino last year when he was playing for the Cardinals. The pair struck up a conversation and left the gambling spot thereafter. Green allegedly invited Mavilia back to his condo.

Court documents state that once they arrived at his home, Green got "extremely agitated and threatening." Mavilia then alleges that the cornerback sodomized her and warned, "This never happened. You'd better not tell."

In a separate action, Mavilia is also suing the city of New York. Back in October 2008, she claims she was dehumanized by members of the New York City Police Department after being arrested for trespassing in a Manhattan housing complex. She accuses a female cop of making her feel like the brunt of a very poor and disparaging joke. Mavilia said she was ordered to remove her undergarments by the police woman. Upon removing her undies, the cop stared at her genitals and mockingly proclaimed, "It's a girl!"

Mavilia said she was once again asked to strip down by a corrections officer before being placed in a cell alongside a man. She alleges that the officer made her feel less than human by belittling her and reminding her of the fact that she was not born a female. Mavilia accuses the officer of berating her about the plastic surgery job she underwent as well.

Former NBA All-Star Marbury to play with professional team in China

BEIJING — Stephon Marbury reached an agreement to play for a professional team in China.


Shanxi announced it was bringing in the former NBA all-star guard on Monday. In a release, the team said it expected Marbury to play his first game on Jan. 27 against Qingdao.


Wang Xingjiang, head of the Shanxi team, called the signing of Marbury "a reward to our fans" to help a struggling team.



"Marbury's salary is not an astronomical figure because by coming here he also hopes to open up the Chinese market and sell his shoes," Wang said, referring to the guard's line of Starbury basketball shoes and apparel.


Based in the northern city of Taiyuan, 400 kilometres from the capital Beijing, Shanxi is 3-10 and in 12th place in a 17-team league.


The 32-year-old Marbury played 13 seasons in the NBA with Minnesota, New Jersey, Phoenix, New York and Boston. He averaged 19.3 points in his career.


He played 23 games with the Celtics last season after a messy split from the Knicks.


In an interview posted on Shanxi's website, Marbury said he wasn't daunted by the language barrier.


"I'll communicate with the fans through my basketball," Marbury said. "I think this will be a unique experience. To go overseas to play ball, to live, for me it's a challenge."


Known for his YouTube online video postings and off-kilter sense of humour, Marbury had a turbulent tenure with his hometown Knicks, feuding with coaches Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas before leaving under a buyout last spring.


Having gone more than a year without playing a regular season game, he saw little action at Boston before becoming a free agent last summer.


Marbury joins another NBA alum at Shanxi: Nigerian centre Olumide Oyedeji, who played two seasons for the Seattle SuperSonics and another for the Orlando Magic.


The 15-year-old Chinese league has struggled with the loss of its biggest star, Houston Rockets centre Yao Ming.

S.C. Republican Lt. Gov.: Poor like 'stray animals'



South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has compared those on government assistance to “stray animals,” saying that the reason you stop feeding animals is that “they breed.”


Bauer is one of the leading Republican candidates for governor and gained national prominence after calling on Republican Gov. Mark Sanford to resign after his admission to an affair with an Argentine woman. But Bauer now finds himself in hot water for his remarks to a town hall meeting on Friday.


“My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed,” Bauer said during a speech advocating that the government take away assistance to those who do not pass drug tests.


“You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply,” Bauer added, according to a report in the Greenville News. “They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that. And so what you’ve got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better.”


Bauer, who grew up in a working-class family, said parents whose children receive free, or subsidized, lunches at school should stop receiving government benefits if they do not attend parent-teacher conferences.


“You go to a school where there’s an active participation of parents, and guess what? They have the highest test scores,” Bauer said. “So what do you do? You say, ‘Look folks, if you receive goods or services from the government and you don't attend a parent-teacher conference, bam, you lose your benefits.’”


The comments have become the focus of the state’s heated gubernatorial campaign, dominating headlines in South Carolina’s political press.


Bauer did not respond to a request to comment, but has defended the remarks by saying the “stray animals” comparison was taken out of context.

Darrelle Shavar Revis (born July 14, 1985, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania), is an American football cornerback for the New York Jets of the National Football League. Revis was drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the Jets in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh.
